"Lou Reid and Carolina" cut Crowe Entertainment's "Amanda Lynn" Written by Ronnie Vines and James Cain with Publishing credits to Midnight Crow ASCAP and Bob Stegall Music BMI. On February 7th, 2010 at the "36 Annual SPBGMA Awards Show" held at the Music City Sheraton Hotel received the honor of "Bluegrass Song of the Year."
The success of "Amanda Lynn" started as a joint effort between Bob Stegall and Jo Crowe. Bob had performed the initial pitch of the song to A&R of Rural Rhythm Records. After the initial pitch of the song Jo Crowe performed the leg work and administrative aspect of song plugging with the record label and the artist who was chosen to record the song. The song was then recorded by Lou Reid and Carolina and released as a single. As the song aired on radio, with the aid and experience of the promotions department of Rural Rhythm Records, “Amanda Lynn” began to smoke the bluegrass charts. Congratulations to all Just as there are thousands of CMA members, there are thousands of SPBGMA members. The pick of the awards are handled on the same format. All of the members receive a nomination form and fill it out then send it back to SPBGMA. The organization then goes through the nominations and pick the top six nominations. At this point, all of the members receive a ballot showing the top six of all the categories, then pick their favorite of all and send the ballots back. SPBGMA then tallies the votes and determined the winners to be announced at the awards show.
There are 23 awards for SPBGMA and “Song of the Year” was 21 on the list as Jo Crowe and Bob Stegall unwearyingly waited in the audience to find out the outcome of the choice of “Song of the Year”. As the Host of the show announced the nominations for “Song of the Year” you could feel the anticipation of not only Jo and Bob, also all of the audience. And the announcer said “and the winner is “Amanda Lynn by Lou Reid and Carolina”. The announcement received a standing ovation by the audience.
Although Lou and the band were not at the awards show we give special congratulations for their talent and perseverance with their career as they tirelessly travel the country performing and to all of the members of the SPBGMA for their votes. The success of “Amanda Lynn”, just as any song, began with the tireless effort of two music publishers (Jo Crowe and Bob Stegall) as they work together in true teamwork to get the songs in their catalogs out to the artists in the industry.
To all of the songwriters, the next “Song of the Year” award could honor your song by choosing to work with Jo Crowe at Crowe Entertainment.
